THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - Kerala-based South Indian Bank (SIB) will Tuesday ink an agreement with Hatton National Bank (HNB), the largest private sector bank in Sri Lanka, to enable the exchange of expertise and services between the two financial institutions, an SIB official said here Sunday.
"The memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be inked between V.A. Joseph, managing director and chief executive officer of SIB, and Rajendra Theagarajah, managing director of HNB, Tuesday in Thiruvananthapuram," the SIB official told IANS on condition of anonymity. "Once the MoU is in place, it would enable the customers of the two banks, wherever they are, to make remittances under demand draft drawing arrangements," he added. SIB, which will close this fiscal with a business of more than Rs.38,000 crore, is planning a business turnover of Rs.48,000 crore in the next financial year. "In the last one decade India has emerged as the largest trade partner of Sri Lanka, so our customers can now look forward for smoother trade-related business like issuing of letter of credits and also discounting of import and export bills," the official said. SIB has achieved a credit growth of 30.47 per cent in the current fiscal and a deposit growth of 23.69 per cent, well above the industry average. The bank recovered stressed assets to the tune of Rs.241 crore and, thus, exceeded the target of Rs.225 crore for this fiscal with a fairly good margin, SIB had said in a statement. The gross non-performing assets (NPA) have come down to 1.46 per cent and net NPA to 0.39 per cent as of December 2009. In the next fiscal, SIB plans to open 60 more branches that will take the total number of its core banking service branch network to 640 in the country, it said. |

"All my questions were answered in a matter of two minutes (of browsing), rather than waiting on a phone call and hoping that person can answer my questions," Benhard said. Sarah Townsend, a 25-year-old training program coordinator, said she likes to reserve tables through her Palm Pre. "I could be sitting in the car and do it, so I don't have to think about it all day," she said. Inexpensive add-onProducing a mobile Web site is relatively inexpensive if a company already has an existing Web site on the Internet, analysts said. That's because a mobile Web site often has fewer features than what's available online to make it easier for the consumer to browse on a phone. However, the process of making a mobile site can be "fairly complex and requires a good amount of testing," said John Tighe, director of e-commerce for Genesco Retail. Most companies try to program their sites for the most popular platforms such as an iPhone or BlackBerry. The Journeys clothing and shoe store chain, a division of Nashville-based Genesco Inc., is launching its mobile Web site in a few weeks to appeal to its target demographic — consumers ages 13 to 24, who often have cell phones. The division includes Journeys, Journeys Kidz and Shi by Journeys stores. "Our core customer is more comfortable with that device. That's their computer," Tighe said. "It's even more personal than it's ever been because they are carrying it with them." The mobile site will be an extension of Journeys' existing Web site, letting consumers browse and buy on their phones. Success on the mobile site will be measured by the amount of traffic, not necessarily sales, Tighe said. Nashville-based Avenue Bank last month launched a mobile banking Web site that allows clients to review their accounts and balances, transfer funds and see their account transactions. About 2,200 clients use Avenue Bank's online banking system, and the bank expects within a year to see 10 percent to 20 percent of that clientele using its mobile banking services, said Vickie Storm, executive vice president and director of client services. Five days after its launch, 44 people signed up for the bank's mobile banking service, Storm said. Analysts say they believe mobile commerce will continue to grow in the future. Iacobucci said there are opportunities for businesses to take on a new type of impulse buying through the cell phone. For example, stores could use GPS technology on customers' cell phones to recognize if the customers are near one of their stores and send mobile coupons to attract them inside, she added. "It could be very opportunistic in a good way," Iacobucci said. Benhard, who is already using Avenue Bank's mobile banking services, is constantly looking for new ways to use his iPhone to simplify his life. The owner of Master Restoration Group, he plans to collect credit card payments through his phone. "I'm ten times more productive," Benhard said of using his iPhone. |

When we originally opened for business in July 2001, Mission Valley Bank was the first new independent bank in more than four years in the San Fernando Valley. With a continuum of acquisitions and mergers in the banking industry, the resulting decline in service levels created an opportunity for a Valley-based, community-owned bank specializing in service excellence.
Our organizers and founders are local business people and bankers who have worked in—and served—the community for many years. It's this community involvement that allows us to provide unsurpassed financial service to growing businesses, and offer highly responsive banking relationships to every customer.
Our business model has proven successful from its inception. We continue to grow and thrive. Mission Valley Bank has opened a new, state-of-the-art Branch and Production Office in the fast growing area of Centre Pointe in Santa Clarita!
